The Department of Industrial Design together with the School of Cultural Technologies of Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University (XJTLU) proudly invite Cumulus members to join us at the Cumulus Regional Seminar on the “Inter-Cultural Innovation” for design education and professional practice!

The event aims to gather Cumulus members China to discuss the ongoing challenges and opportunities in design education related to the rapid development of the AI and other emerging technologies. Through vivid and insightful discussions, we will explore participants’ views on the advantages and disadvantages of different educational models, concerns related to potential homogenization of education, innovative approaches to education as well as the importance of preserving and cultivating traditional values. Esteemed speakers from design, education, and local industry will share insights, fostering dialogue and collaboration. Moreover, the two-days seminar will welcome design leaders from the Netherlands as part of the Dutch-Chinese collaboration on culture, innovation, and education. They will share their experience and visions on design through keynote presentations and hands-on workshops for the students. Hosted by XJTLU, a Sino-British university with a British curriculum and international faculty, this seminar aims to bridge cultures and shape innovative approaches to design education.

Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University is a Cumulus Full Member and an international joint venture university founded by Xi’an Jiaotong University in China and the University of Liverpool in the United Kingdom. As an independent Sino-foreign cooperative university, it captures the essence of both prestigious parent universities and is the largest of such universities approved by the Ministry of Education in China.

XJTLU Industrial Design Department has an aim of training a new generation of industrial and product designers able to tackle the challenges associated with China’s ongoing social, cultural, and economic transformation. All of the department’s programmes are accredited by the internationally recognised Chartered Society of Designers, which is based in the UK.

XJTLU School of Cultural Technologies pioneers the latest in creative disciplines and cutting-edge art practices, encompassing game design, virtual reality, augmented reality, mixed reality, AI, visual art, computational media, generative art, performance, interactive media, networked art, prototyping physical interfaces, installation art, experimental filmmaking, and animation.

Cumulus Regional Meeting is a new initiative launched by Cumulus to foster communication and collaboration among regional Cumulus members.

XJTLU invites you to be part of this transformative journey and share your experiences in design education, honouring cultural heritage while embracing the opportunities of informational technology.
