Mission Statement
SUAC graduates will enter the workforce with practical and professional skills.
Our university fosters citizens who will positively contribute to society.
International Role
SUAC focuses on multi-cultural coexistence, where people of diverse nationalities and ethnicities accept their mutual cultural differences and strive toward equality. SUAC's team of specialist professors are committed to conducting original research, furthering student education, and making contributions to the local community. Learning goes beyond attending lectures and includes support projects for children of foreign (neither “foreign nationalities” nor “foreign nationals” are acceptable. They both sound xenophobic. I suggest “projects for non-Japanese children” and volunteering in the local community. At present, we have productive international relationships with eleven overseas universities. For example, over the past five years, our Department of Design has been jointly conducting a yearly collaborative English design workshop with the Design Department of Izmir University of Economics in Turkey.
National Role
Our university contributes to the local community through academic research and various collaborative projects. The city of Hamamatsu has been a member of UNESCO’s “Creative Cities” network since 2014. The city has long flourished as a place devoted to manufacturing products including textiles, musical instruments, and transportation equipment (vehicles and motorcycles). Our university also collaborates with global companies including Yamaha, Kawai, Suzuki, and Roland to create new value in design and culture for the local community.
Main Focus
The Faculty of Design primarily offers a BA in design. It covers Design Philosophy (History/ Community/ Method), Product Design, Audio and Visual Communications (Graphic Design/ Film/ CG), Interaction Design (Web/ Games), Architecture and Landscape, and Takumi (Japanese crafts and Architecture).
