As we witness the developing tragedy of the Ukraine invasion and continue to hope for peace ahead, the current developments leave us no choice but to announce the cancellation of the upcoming Cumulus Conference: Un/touchable: New Meanings and Values originally planned to be held in Moscow and St. Petersburg next June 13-18, 2022.
Please know we are in close dialogue with the conference organizing team; everyone is deeply saddened and intends to honor the academic submissions to the conference that were received. We will have an update by late March on what next steps will be taken on this front, after the next convening of the Cumulus Executive Board.
Under the title “Un/Touchable: New Meanings and Values” we invite the Cumulus community, designers, and educators to investigate the notions of tactility, tangible aesthetics, proprioception, and haptic visuality.
With the Cumulus vision to actively promote an exchange of knowledge and design experience on a global and interdisciplinary scale, three Russian schools — St. Petersburg University, HSE Art and Design School (HSE University), and Peter the Great St. Petersburg Polytechnic University joined their
efforts to host official Cumulus conference. The conference will be held in Saint Petersburg and Moscow in June 2022. Each day will cover one of the conference’s tracks. Each host (SpbSTU, SpbU, HSE) will be responsible for one track. This approach presents a diverse Russian art and design academic community
eager to exchange ideas with colleagues worldwide.
Conference location: Moscow, St. Petersburg + online
Conference dates: June 13–18, 2022
