Rome, Italy | January 28-29, 2026
Sapienza University of Rome, a distinguished member of the Cumulus Association, celebrates three decades of design education excellence with a national conference and year-long program of events marking this significant milestone.
The celebration opens with the conference “30 Years of Design at Sapienza” (January 28-29, 2026) at the Aula Magna of the Faculty of Architecture, Valle Giulia campus. Since establishing Italy’s first Industrial Design degree program in 1995, Sapienza has evolved into a comprehensive design education institution offering undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral programs that have shaped generations of Italian and international designers.
The conference features four thematic sessions exploring the school’s remarkable journey: testimonies from founding faculty members, success stories from distinguished alumni, the international dimension of the school’s activities, third mission initiatives, and future perspectives for design education.
Organized by Sapienza’s design faculty and researchers, the celebrations will continue throughout 2026 with international conferences, networking events, publications, and multimedia content. The program includes the CUID conference “New Commissions for Design” (February), the international conference “Design across Time” (February), and the joint SID-CUID conference “Research and Doctoral Studies” (March).
These thirty years represent not only institutional achievement but also Sapienza’s vital contribution to Italian and international design discourse.
