2023 Humeng Cup Chinese – International University Color Design Competition

The China Fashion & Color Association has decided to hold the 2023 “Humeng Cup” Chinese -International University Color Design Competition from November 2023 to January 2024, calling for excellent entries from university students of design-related majors from domestic and international.

Competition Theme: “In the Name of Color”

Color, being a fundamental element reflecting the objective world and constructing human lifestyles, is also a prominent symbol of regional culture and the spirit of the times. As the primary element of vision, color is not only crucial for showcasing visual aesthetics and expressing emotions but also serves as a powerful tool for enhancing design creativity and even improving economic benefits. The theme “In the Name of Color” for this competition aims to lead participants from domestic and international universities to explore the endless charm and innovative possibilities of color, ignite passion for color creation, highlight individual design talent, and provide a broad platform for excellent works with features of forward-looking, clear function, distinctive visual image display, well-made, and market-promising.

Submission Period: November 30, 2023, to January 31, 2024. Entries and materials can be submitted by institutions or independent participants.

The 2nd Global Sportswear Design Award

In June 2021, Tsinghua University and Anta Group, a Chinese sportswear company, jointly established the Tsinghua University-Anta Group Sports Fashion Joint Research Center, which is operated by the Academy of Arts & Design, Tsinghua University. The center aims to discover and train creative talents and provide a platform for young designers around the world to realize their creative dreams. Now, the center is launching the “The 2nd Global Sportswear Design Award”(GSDA), which is rooted in the field of professional sports fashion, focusing on future life dreams. The submission is between October 2023 and March 2024.

The GSDA this year focuses on 3 themes. Each entry can only be submitted to one theme.
(1)Digital Intelligent Future: In this dimension, digital and intelligent technologies are applied to improve or enhance the design and functionality of sportswear. It involves incorporating cutting-edge techniques like parametric design, AI intelligent generation, big data, and simulation into ground-breaking applications of sportswear.
(2)Environmental Protection: The main focus lies in the eco-friendliness and sustainability of sportswear, and the ability to implement ESG and carbon neutrality practices while prioritizing the use of renewable or biodegradable materials in our designs.
(3)Trend Fashion: The emphasis on the seamless fusion of contemporary fashion elements with sportswear, and the ability to craft trendy sportswear that incorporates and showcases the latest fashion trends.

Competition Schedule
1. Registration and submission: October 1, 2023 to March 20, 2024 (Beijing time)
2. Preliminary comments by experts: March 21, 2024 to April 20, 2024
3. Announcement of winning works: April 21, 2024 to April 27, 2024
4. Award Ceremony: April 28, 2024 to May 30, 2024
5. Mentor guidance, and sample production: May 31, 2024 to September 2024
6. Work Release: September 2024

Prize Settings
– Gold Award (2 winners): a total of 1 million yuan will be awarded. A Gold Award will be selected for each category of footwear and apparel, each winner will receive 500,000 yuan
– Silver Award (2 winners): a total of 300,000 yuan will be awarded. A Silver Award will be selected for each category of footwear and apparel, each winner will receive 150,000 yuan
– Bronze Award (6 winners): a total of 360,000 yuan will be awarded. Three Bronze Awards will be selected for each category of footwear and apparel, each winner will receive 60,000 yuan
– Finalist Award (20 winners): a total of 200,000 yuan will be awarded. Ten Finalist Awards will be selected for each category of footwear and apparel, each winner will receive 10,000 yuan
– Future Star Award (6 winners): a total of 180,000 yuan will be awarded. Three Finalist Awards will be selected for each category of footwear and apparel, each winner will receive 30,000 yuan
– Innovative Application of New Materials Award (4 winners): a total of 200,000 yuan will be awarded. One winner of the Best Technologically Innovative Material Application Award and one winner of the Best Sustainable Material Design Application Award in each of the footwear and apparel groups, each winner will receive 50,000yuan

TISDC 2023 – Cumulus Special Award goes to Chi-Lun Hsu!

Cumulus is proud to continue its partnership with the TISDC 2023 Taiwan International Student Design Competition.

This year the Cumulus 2023 Special Award was admitted to Chi-Lun Hsu (National Taiwan University of Science and Technology, Taiwan, China) for the project titled Eureka. Congratulations!

Prof. Teresa Franqueira, Cumulus Executive Board member, presented the award in Taipei on behalf of Cumulus.

EuroFabrique Design Camp

EuroFabrique is a project initiated by RMNGrand Palais, the École des Arts Décoratifs, and ANdÉA – the national association of art and design schools – as part of the French Presidency of the European Union Council. In February 2022, over four days, the Grand Palais Ephémère hosted 400 students from 35 European higher art schools for a week of collaborative workshops on the future of Europe, with the aim of exploring and creating forms that represent the continent they inhabit and to produce new creative narratives. A second prototype will be tested in a more condensed format in Cluj, Romania, in December 2023 and BOZAR in Brussels may be hosting Eurofabrique in May 2024, while Belgium holds the EU presidency.

From 5 to 9 February 2024, le Signe, centre national du graphisme will host this second camp, a laboratory of workshops, masterclasses, lectures, and meetings combining theoretical approaches (fostered by guest speakers from the fields of philosophy, semiology, art direction) and design experimentation so as to lay the substratum for the visual identity of the continuing and evolving EuroFabrique. This week of in-person work will be followed by a month of remote work with weekly meetings facilitated by a graphic design studio.

Beyond Imagination – Call for the Green Concept Award 2024

The Green Concept Award, in cooperation with the IKEA Stiftung, honours students and
young designers in particular for visionary concepts, supports them with the Green Cells program, shows them at exhibitions and supports them in their further development. Beyond Imagination is the guiding principle here and the special project is the development of a sustainable and affordable capsule collection. Learn more here.

The awards are presented in the categories Architecture, Beauty & Personal Care, Building Components, New Materials, Consumer Goods, Fashion, Freestyle, Interior & Lifestyle, Kids, Kitchen, Mobility, Packaging, Sport and Workspace for the best product of a company, a start-up and the best concept.

“Designers in Residence” invites young international designers to Pforzheim

“Designers in Residence” is an international design scholarship of the city of Pforzheim in cooperation with Pforzheim University and the Design-Center Baden Württemberg, granted to young design artists from the fields of jewelry, fashion, accessory, industrial and graphic and other areas of design. Three designers are invited to work on their projects from April 1 to June 30 2024 at EMMA Creative Center, the central platform for creative people in Pforzheim. The town of Pforzheim is characterized by an active creative scene which is focused on the area of design. The faculty of design at the Pforzheim University of Applied Sciences has established Pforzheim as a university town with an international reputation. “Designers in Residence” scholarship program counts with the generous support of Sparkasse Pforzheim Calw, C. Hafner, Rotary Club Pforzheim-Schlossberg and yellow design.

What does the scholarship include?

The scholarship is fully funded and includes use of fully equipped workshop workplaces and co-working spaces in the EMMA Creative Center and free accommodation for the period from April 1 to June 30, 2024. In addition, each scholarship holder will receive a monthly support of 1,000 euros together with travel costs. A special allowance will be made available for material costs. The results of the scholarship will be presented in an exhibition at the EMMA Creative Center.

Call for Proposals: Water Matters – Open Electives 2023

From 11th to 22nd December 2023 of NID, Ahmedabad

The Annual Open Electives organised by National Institute of Design (NID), Ahmedabad, India (with campuses in Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar, & Bengaluru) will held this year from the11th to 22nd December 2023 on-campus / offline mode for the second-year Bachelors students and first-year Masters students of NID at its Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar, and Bengaluru campuses.

Titled ‘Water Matters’, this year’s Open Electives 2023 is an invitation to explore creative responses on the theme of water and its interpretations from practitioners across various domains. The elective is envisaged as a trans-disciplinary space where varied vantage points, knowledge systems, expertise, curiosities and practices converge towards a holistic deliberation on water. The proposals may consider various trajectories spanning aspects of Water in Time & Space, Water crisis and catastrophe, Water cultures and communities, Water ecosystems, Water politics and borders, Water as sensory experience, Water as memory and much more.
