International Role

The university adheres to an open policy and actively responds to the country's diplomatic strategy, with its international cooperation and exchanges continuously deepening. It has established intercollegiate cooperative relations with over 100 universities and research institutions in more than 30 countries and regions. Since 1993, it has annually hosted the foreign aid human resources training courses organized by the Ministry of Commerce of China, providing training and academic education for over 3,000 officials and technicians from more than 130 countries along the Belt and Road and other developing countries in fields such as environmental protection, energy, and logistics. In 2015, it became one of the first universities in the country to undertake the foreign aid master's degree education project. It has been approved for three projects under the provincial "14th Five-Year Plan" for improving the quality of education opening up, and three projects for the high-level exemplary construction of Sino-foreign cooperative education in universities. It has also been selected into the "China-Belarus International Education Cooperation Alliance" and other alliances.

National Role

The university adheres to the strategy of strengthening the institution through talent, and promotes the development of its faculty through recruitment, cultivation, and utilization. The strength of the teaching staff has been continuously enhanced. It has one academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, one academician from a developed country, and 50 national-level talent program recipients including National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars, Wu Yuzhang Humanities and Social Sciences Award winners, and Distinguished Professors of the "Chang Jiang Scholars Program". There are over 600 provincial-level talent program recipients, including those in the second tier of Jiangsu Province's "333 Project". The university has 16 provincial and ministerial-level teams. It has over 840 teachers with senior professional titles and over 1,070 teachers with doctoral degrees. Currently, there are 68 doctoral supervisors and 842 master's supervisors.

The university adheres to the principle of fostering virtue and nurturing talent, integrating moral, intellectual, physical, aesthetic and labor education. The quality of talent cultivation has been continuously improving. It has won one first prize and four second prizes in the National Teaching Achievement Awards, as well as the first prize in the National College Teachers' Teaching Innovation Competition. It has also received over 40 provincial-level teaching achievement awards, including the Special Prize for Provincial Teaching Achievements and the First Prize for Provincial Graduate Education Model Reform Achievements. The university has one national-level base for cultural and quality education for college students, one national-level student technology entrepreneurship internship base, and one national-level off-campus practical education base. In recent years, students from Soochow University have won over 600 awards in the national ordinary college discipline competition ranking list events every year, and have achieved remarkable results in various domestic and international competitions such as the China International College Students' Innovation Competition, the "Challenge Cup" National College Students' Extracurricular Academic and Technological Works Competition, and the Entrepreneurship Plan Competition. The university has been rated as A-level in the comprehensive evaluation of provincial graduate education and the quantitative supervision and assessment of provincial college graduates' employment work for four consecutive years. Since its establishment, Soochow University has cultivated more than 200,000 graduates of various types, including two academicians of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Chinese Academy of Engineering, Zhou Xiyuan and Ye Keming. The university is known as the incubation base for planners, the cradle for engineers, and the training center for the backbone of basic education.

Main Focus

The School of Art of Suzhou University of Science and Technology is currently promoting the construction of doctoral programs in art studies and design studies, and hopes to enhance academic exchanges and discipline construction with other universities around the world.
