Mission Statement
A multi-disciplinary university with internationally renowned expertise in Design Science, Textile Science and Engineering, Materials Science and Engineering and related disciplines, complemented by a commitment to the development of management and liberal arts.
International Role
From its inception, DHU has dedicated itself to the internationalization of education, establishing close ties with over 100 internationally-renowned universities, research institutions and enterprises across the world. Enrolling foreign students since 1954, DHU was one of the earliest universities in China to accept overseas students and now has over 4,700 foreign students from more than 130 countries and regions. DHU has Sino-foreign cooperative education programs with the University of Edinburgh in the United Kingdom, Carleton University in Canada, Reutlingen University of Applied Sciences in Germany and Bunka Gakuen University in Japan. The University is now listed as a unit in the Sino-Africa 20 + 20 University Cooperation Program, providing training for specialized advanced professionals in the major of Textile Science and Engineering. DHU has launched a Confucius Institute featuring Textile and Design at Moi University, Kenya. Each year, a large number of teachers and students visit, study abroad or participate in international academic conferences. DHU is extensively engaged in international collaborations.
National Role
DHU upholds the guideline for disciplinary development as Preserving Unique Characteristics, Expanding Basic Disciplines, Reinforcing Inter-disciplinarity and Developing with Needs. The University integrates education, research and their real-world application and, in doing so, makes unremitting effort to break scientific and technological barriers and promote socio-economic development and local urban construction. Its research results have been extensively applied in national defense, aviation, fashion design, architecture, medicine, resource conservation, modern agriculture, electronic information, new materials and advanced equipment.
