Cumulus Working Group
Research Vectors in Design and Arts

Context:
For this session we have invited 4 guest speakers from China. They will share projects of research from their academic perspective and local University, so presenting a picture of Design Research in China.

Reveda is the Cumulus Working Group dedicated to design research and its aim is to draw a global map on research in design and the arts, while drawing its fields of interest, the outcomes of the activities, the approaches, the tools and the methodologies, but also its actors (such as the institutions, the industry and the society at large) and the complex networks emerging among them.

Reveda WG is meeting during the Cumulus conferences with a thematic workshop. Its activities are including presentations, case studies and discussions.
As a result of the activities of the first ten years, Reveda WG published a book displaying the complex mapping of research in design and the arts in Cumulus, while summarizing the activities and including the people involved.

Invited Guests Speakers:

Shuxin Cheng
Director of Innovation Design
School of Design, Central Academy of Fine Arts.
Shuxin Cheng is the director of Innovation Design at the School of Design, Central Academy of Fine Arts. With a background in transdisciplinary innovation, she initiated “Innovation Geometry” model and established an innovative opportunity research platform. Recognized on Forbes China’s “30 Under 30” list, her diverse education spans Tsinghua University, Imperial College London, the Royal College of Art, University of Heidelberg, and CEIBS. Her passion lies in exploring the future of lifestyles, providing strategic insights, and nurturing innovative solutions.

Yuwen Wang
Professor of Social Design Department
School of Design, Central Academy of Fine Arts.
Yuwen Wang is an instructor of Social Design department at School of Design, Central Academy of Fine Arts.
She obtained her master’s degree in Design for Social Innovation from the School of VisualArts. Yuwen hasworked as an artist collaborator in New Inc (an artist incubator of New Museum in New York) for one year. Her main research directions include empowering vulnerable and marginalized groups, and meaningfully integrating audience understanding with business strategies and social changes.

Head of international Joint Lab B-FED (Brand Future Experience Design)
School of Design, Jiangnan University
Qian Xiabo academic expertise and research field include Experience Design, Product Service System Design, Design Management and Strategic Design, Mass Customization, trying to explore frontier design theories and methods and apply to design practice actively.

Professor Thomas Kvan
Southern University of Science and Technology, Shenzhen, China
Tom Kvan is currently the Founding Dean of the School of Design at the Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech) and Honorary Professor of Architecture, University of Melbourne. He is recognised internationally for his pioneering work in design, design learning, digital environments, design management and virtual heritage. Previously, Dean of the Faculty of Architecture, Building and Planning (the Melbourne School of Design) at the University of Melbourne and has held senior roles at the University of Hong Kong and the University of Sydney.
