Mission Statement

University of the Arts London aims to be recognised as one of the foremost institutions in the world for learning, practice, research and development in arts, design and communication and is built upon the specific histories, identities and achievements of its constituent colleges and their long tradition of engagement with creative, intellectual and professional life.

At UAL, we work to stay at the forefront of new thinking and stay ahead of industry developments so students are ready to launch their careers and define the future of the creative industries. The UAL experience is all about learning by doing: if you see something you like, join it. If you can’t see it, find it. And if it’s not there, start it.

International Role

University of the Arts London aims to be a truly international university by attracting a multicultural staff and student community (we currently welcome students and staff from over 100 nations), building closer academic partnerships with institutions outside the UK, and developing a curriculum that sustains and expands our global role as an exciting and innovative centre for arts, design and communication in a network of like-minded institutions.

With a new long-term international strategy recently launched and being centrally located in a world centre for the creative industries, UAL is truly international. We enhance our global identity through:

·         recruiting nearly 25% of our student body from outside the UK

·         delivering exchange opportunities and Study Abroad programmes for staff and students

·         building collaborative academic and research partnerships

·         developing and leading networks for creative professionals engaged in the fields of design and media

·         offering consultancy and development opportunities

·         working with our international alumni

PARTNERSHIPS & EXCHANGES

Erasmus and international partnerships (for student and staff mobility) are coordinated by UAL's International Offices. Exchanges are developed at course level and must be championed by the relevant Course Leader. We ask that all requests for new partnerships come from institutions, rather than individual students.

National Role

UAL is the largest art, design and communication university in the UK and it plays a key role in the development of art and design education across the sector and shaping the country’s creative industries – which make up nearly a quarter of the country’s economy. It is a major member of the National Arts Learning Network which aims to widen participation in higher education, and we work in partnership with all the key UK art and design universities and colleges. Industry links are extensive, and each College has at least one industry forum which supports academic development and delivery. Industry links also include work placements and internships, mentoring schemes, student bursaries and equipment and materials donations and a range of course sponsorship initiatives.

Main Focus

With over 100 courses in art and design, UAL's cutting edge programmes and courses are delivered by an inspiring and supportive teaching staff made up of professional artists, practitioners, designers, critics and theorists.

Everything from fashion media, Fine Art through to 3D animation, graphic design and drama, there's a course for everyone.
