Mission Statement

Founded in 1877 as the Lucerne School of Arts and Crafts, the Lucerne School of Art and Design today has more than 700 students benefiting from its strong expertise in research and development, making it one of Switzerland's leading providers of degree programmes in art, design, and film.

We deliver innovation and identify niches; we create images, narratives, products, strategies and processes that provide meaning and add cultural, economic and social value. Our workshops are practical and relevant; we have a high profile in the public sphere; we maintain cooperation with our external partners. Proud of our long-standing traditions, we move forward with confidence. Our roots are in Central Switzerland, yet we have a network at an international level.

International Role

The Lucerne School of Art and Design currently maintains around 70 international partnerships in Europe, India, China, South Korea, Japan, Israel, Columbia and Russia. Student and staff exchange as well as bilingual programmes contribute to the internationalisation of the institution. Teaching methods are modularly constructed and lead to nationally as well as internationally recognised qualifications.

National Role

The Lucerne School of Art and Design is the oldest art school in Central Switzerland and is widely seen as a reliable and competent partner specialised in four fields: training, professional development, research and development and services in the public space, in the public as well as in the private sector. Our geographic focus is not only on Central Switzerland but also far beyond. We collaborate with many domestic and international partner universities and companies in our main areas of competences.
