Mission Statement
The mission of the faculty of design is to form specialists that create a creative resource for solving complex problems in the field of design, research, innovation implementation, generation of new design ideas based on modern modeling and artistic creation of complex objects.
International Role
The Faculty of Design cooperates with scientists, designers, artists from around 20 countries of the world. The artworks by the Faculty staff are presented at exhibitions in Europe, Canada and the Republic of China. Thus, in particular, creative achievements were presented at international art events: "Malevich Tribute" (Kyiv, 2015); RONG XIANG Museum in Tinhua (People's Republic of China, 2017); the Veba Gallery in Frankfurt am Main, (Germany, 2016 and 2017); Pablo Cyrano Museum in Zaragoza (Spain, 2016), CDAN Museum in Huesca (Spain, 2018); GALERIE PEHBOCK in Vienna (Austria, 2018); Berlin Fashion Week (2022), Lndon Fashion Week (2023) etc.
National Role
Kyiv National University of Technologies and Design has the IVth level of accreditation of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine. It ranked in 21st place among the 200 Top HEI of Ukraine. Faculty of Design is the leading center of Ukrainian design education. It successfully collaborates with a wide range of Ukrainian art and design institutions: National Academy of Arts of Ukraine, National Academy of Fine Arts and Architecture, Lviv National Academy of Arts, Kharkiv State Academy of Design and Arts, Kyiv National University of Construction and Architecture, M. Boychuk Kyiv State Institute of Decorative Art And Design and others.
Main Focus
Students are getting knowledge both in the framework of the University standard curricula and original vocational courses which are developed by leading specialists and designers, and are constantly being improved. Students study original programs (fashion design, graphic design, photo & video design, web-design, motion-design, interior and furniture design) that meet the standards for designer training.
Faculties and Departments
Kyiv National University of Technologies and Design (former Kyiv Technological Institute of Light Industry), as one of the leading higher educational institutions of Ukraine, has conducted high-quality training of fashion designers, engineers of clothing, footwear, and knitwear manufacture since 1930. It has become the center of Ukrainian education in the field of light industry.
The Faculty of Design was established in 2000 and it has developed art at the Technological University successfully. Now it is the center of Ukrainian design education, not fashion designers only but a wide range of designers: industrial design, interior and decorate design, advertising and exhibition business, graphic and web design as well.
There are four departments on faculty: Art and Fashion Design; Multimedia Design; Interior and furniture design; Graphic design. The faculty staff is leading experts in the field of design: corresponding members of academies, doctors and candidates of science and art history, and members of the designers and artists unions of Ukraine.
Students are trained according to original programs that meet the international standards of the designers’ training. There are educational and scientific laboratories, Student Fashion House, Museum of Costume History, Museum of Photography KNUTD, photo studio "Prof. Hersh Chadha Studio ”, etc.
The Faculty of Design is the organizer of the annual International Competition of Young Fashion Designers "Pechersky Kashtany", All-Ukrainian Competition "Suzirya "Kashtan", International Student Photo Contest "Hot Ice", poster contest "Save ENERGY". The scientific journal "Art and design" is published quarterly.

Research Activity and Main Areas
The main research areas:
design, aesthetics, ergonomics, constructive and functional issues of art in the context of ethnic culture, ecology and human life support systems;
artistic and communicative aspects of the design objects formation by means of IT technology;
current problems and development prospects for interior design;
study of the structure and artistic and compositional characteristics of the costume in the development of clothing collections;
ergonomic design and aesthetic shaping of products;
methodological fundamentals for the creation of design objects on the basis of art synthesis.
