Burg Giebichenstein University of Art and Design Halle is looking to fill the following position in the Art department at the earliest possible date:
Professor for Plastic Arts/Jewellery (W2)
We are looking for an exceptional and internationally renowned artist with an independent oeuvre to head the Jewellery discipline within the Plastic Arts ‘Diplom’ degree course. Key areas are contemporary art jewellery and body-related plastic arts.
In accordance with the orientation of the subject area, the incumbent is expected to support and guide the students of the specialist classes in the development of their own artistic language. In their teaching, they will also address the spectrum and contemporary discourse of jewellery art. Confidence in employing traditional methods and techniques of metal and gemstone workmanship are expected, as is an explorative approach to unconventional materials in contemporary and innovative production techniques.
In addition to fulfilling the general appointment requirements according to § 35 HSG LSA, candidates will have to meet the following expectations:
– a comprehensive independent artistic oeuvre with corresponding exhibition activity
– pedagogical aptitude, proven by relevant teaching experience
– a strong commitment to teaching
– an innovative development of the course profile
– teaching of content relating to the history of jewellery and contemporary jewellery art
– establishing collaborations within the university
– cooperation in the self-administration of the university
The professorship can be held for a limited or unlimited period of up to five years. The decision on this is made during the start of the appointment procedure. If the professorship is limited in time, the possibility of an unlimited appointment will be examined before the end of the limited term. The salary will be determined in accordance with legal and budgetary requirements.
