Mission Statement

The Fashion, Art Crafts & Design Campus of Excellence offers a unique network of training institutions and institutional partners. Located in the heart of the Gobelins Manufacture, the Campus is fully committed to bring out training, from the professional path to the research level, but also to promote the trades as close as possible to the needs of companies in the industry. Its international exposure contributes to wider visibility of the excellence of French training.

International Role

The ‘International’ focus area is based on three main objectives. Firstly, it aims to develop international exchanges and strategic partnerships in vocational education, thereby strengthening the international dimension of the courses offered. Secondly, it aims to increase the international appeal of higher education institutions and vocational training programmes, offering learners opportunities for development and careers on a global scale. Finally, as part of this focus, the Campus is committed to fostering cultural openness and promoting a culture of European cooperation, thereby contributing to mutual enrichment and diversity of perspectives within the institutions.

National Role

The Campus d'Excellence Mode, Métiers d'Art et Design – Paris, Manufactures des Gobelins, supported by the École des Arts Décoratifs de Paris, was born out of a shared desire to exploit this remarkable wealth, promote these excellent training programmes and meet the needs of the creative industries by partnering with the companies, artisans, foundations and patrons who bring this dynamic economic sector to life. This Campus of Excellence for Crafts and Qualifications is part of an exceptional partnership with the Mobilier National, also a founding member, and, through this fruitful collaboration with a major institution of the Ministry of Culture, is committed to promoting the professional training programmes supported by the Ministry of National Education, Youth and Sports and the Ministry of Higher Education, Research and Innovation in conjunction with the Ministry of Labour, Employment and Integration.

Designed as a true incubator and a unique space for reflection and exchange in France, the Campus allows for observation, analysis, recommendation and implementation of experiments in the service of educational, technological and professional innovation and the essential challenges of sustainable development and ecological transition.

The Campus Mode, Métiers d'Art et Design – Paris, Manufactures des Gobelins has four key ambitions:

— To promote and enhance the reputation of excellence in arts and design professions and training at regional and international level.
— To develop and adapt training programmes in line with economic and social prospects in order to build successful career paths for all audiences,
— To facilitate lifelong professional integration and strengthen exchanges and partnerships between training organisations and economic actors,
— To renew professional practices and support the development of training programmes and businesses through research, innovation and skills development.

Main Focus

Our areas of activity fall into three complementary fields: fashion, arts and crafts, and design. These three sectors are linked by creativity, mastery of craftsmanship and innovation.

– Fashion

Fashion is both an industrial and artisanal sector. It encompasses several areas: jewellery, footwear, couture, leather and hides, watchmaking, leather goods and textiles. It is based on an ecosystem of designers, artisans, manufacturers and subcontractors who contribute to the quality and excellence of the products. In France, fashion is a major heritage sector, recognised worldwide. For more than three centuries, it has conveyed an image of exceptional luxury, craftsmanship and art de vivre. France is identified as the country of major brands, but also as the country of high-quality craftsmanship.

– Craft

Artistic crafts are an essential pillar of our field of activity. They are defined by:

  • mastery of complex technical skills,
  • the transformation of materials,
  • the production of unique or small series of artistic objects,
  • complete mastery of the process by the professional.

The law officially recognises crafts as a sector in their own right. They comprise 198 trades and 83 specialities, organised into 16 fields.

Professionals can practise under different statuses (craftsman, artist-author, employee, self-employed entrepreneur, etc.).

– Design

Design is a cross-disciplinary field that combines creativity, technology and human sciences. Unlike artists, designers respond to specific requests and work according to a methodology tailored to each project.

Our areas of expertise in design cover several fields:

  • product design (objects, industrial, fashion),
  • image or message design (graphic design, illustration),
  • spatial design (interior architecture, landscaping),
  • material design (textiles, surfaces, colour),
  • interactive design,
  • service design.

Faculties and Departments

The aim of the ‘Promotion’ initiative is to enhance the appeal of training programmes – primarily in the crafts and arts sectors, but also in fashion and design – by increasing their visibility among prospective pupils and students. It also seeks to raise awareness of these opportunities among young people in priority areas. By strengthening links with economic stakeholders, this focus area aims to make training programmes more attractive on the job market. Discover our formations : catalogue_par_domaines_26.pdf

Bachelor Level Programs

The National Diploma in Arts and Design (DN MADE) is a higher education programme that replaces, in public and private institutions under contract, the Applied Arts Foundation Course (MANAA), the Diploma in Arts and Crafts (DMA) and the BTS in Design. The aim of this diploma is to harmonise arts and design studies at national and European level based on the Bachelor's-Master's-Doctorate model. The DN MADE is a three-year course taken after the baccalaureate and confers a Level 2 degree, compared to Level 3 for BTS and DMA courses. This diploma allows students to continue their studies in higher education at Master's level or in a Higher Diploma in Applied Arts (DSAA). catalogue_par_domaines_26.pdf

Master Level Programs

The Higher Diploma in Applied Arts, a two-year course following a BTS or DMA (diploma in applied arts), provides access to creative positions in the field of design. catalogue_par_domaines_26.pdf

Research Activity and Main Areas

Led by the Campus Mode, Métiers d'Art et Design, supported by the École nationale supérieure des Arts Décoratifs and France 2030 national investment program, in partnership with several educational establishments and economic partners in the sector. Re-SOuRCE project is divided into three areas of initial and continuing training :

— Conservatoire des métiers d'art et de fabrication to respond to the challenge of generational transition

In concrete terms, the project aims to preserve and pass on the skills of the arts and crafts, which constitute one of France's most precious intangible heritages. Thanks to collaborative robotics and human-centred artificial intelligence, the system will capture the expert movements of craftsmen, transcribe them and preserve them for use in training future generations of apprentices.

— Innovation & Circular Creation Programme to address the challenge of ecological transition.

The aim is to develop a specialised training programme at national level focused on circularity skills and expertise in creation. All educational content will be developed in partnership with professionals and associations.

— Impact Fashion Springboard Programme to address the challenge of transforming entrepreneurship in the creative professions.

The aim is to create a technological innovation centre that addresses the ecological challenges facing the cultural and creative industries.

France Relance program :

– La Grande Matériauthèque, a future resource centre for materials

The Campus Mode, Métiers d’Art, Design – Manufacture des Gobelins, the Mobilier national and the École des Arts Décoratifs – PSL are working on a project to create a Grande Matériauthèque that will be shared and accessible to all their academic and professional partners.

The aim of this project is to create a unique resource centre on materials and processes to inspire and train students and teachers in creative disciplines and connect them with the professional world. The Grande Matériauthèque is intended to be a showcase for traditional and innovative practices in the arts, crafts, fashion and design through the material aspect and to encourage ecological transition and synergies in these sectors.

Doctorate Level Programs

The ‘Innovation’ axis focuses on two fundamental aspects: pedagogical innovation and technological innovation. With this in mind, it seeks to develop hybridisations between crafts and design, thereby promoting innovative creative approaches. At the same time, it aims to promote exchanges between pre-baccalaureate and post-baccalaureate levels, thereby encouraging enriching synergy between the different levels of study. Finally, it strives to raise awareness among students and professionals about environmental issues, a crucial step towards a responsible and sustainable approach to innovation.

Cost of Living Per Month (Studying and Living)

Paris is an inspiring city for international students, but it is also one of the most expensive cities in Europe. Housing represents the largest part of the student budget. On average, rent can range from about €250–€450 per month in university residences, while shared apartments usually cost between €500 and €900 per month, and private studios can reach €900–€1,300 depending on the location.

Beyond housing, students typically spend around €200–€300 per month on food, especially if they cook at home and make use of affordable university cafeterias. Public transportation is efficient and well developed, with a student pass costing around €75 per month, allowing unlimited access to the metro, buses, and trams.

Overall, the average monthly budget for a student in Paris generally ranges between €1,000 and €1,600 depending on lifestyle and accommodation choices.

Despite these costs, Paris offers exceptional cultural opportunities, world-class education, and a vibrant international environment. Institutions can also support international students in navigating practical aspects of their stay, including administrative procedures and housing search. In particular, students can be connected with peers currently on mobility programs as well as with relevant institutions and support services, helping them integrate more easily and benefit fully from their experience in Paris.
