Mission Statement

ESDIR has as main aim to train professionals in the design field, able to develop innovative and responsible projects that can give an adequate answer to the demands of the current social, cultural and productive context. The institution work is devoted to endowing students with all the necessary knowledge and resources necessary to comply with technical and creative criteria, working beyond the academic in order to prepare them for the professional practice and research within the field of design.

International Role

ESDIR is a higher education institution with a determined international perspective, searching for an impact on the improvement of the academic practice, innovation and visibility to the institution in different dimensions. ESDIR is very dynamic in academic mobility and exchange of students and staff. A great part of the activity takes place in Europe; however, we also count on very active agreements with institutions in America, Asia and Africa. The participation in international events related to design and staff mobilities provide a new and necessary perspective that has a clear impact on our students' training, besides providing consolidation and improvement of our interinstitutional networks.

National Role

ESDIR is a public institution well positioned within other design colleges. Besides providing official academic training in BA and MA levels, we participate in national events, lectures and our staff is active in academic networks. We receive students from different regions of the country and we look for cooperation possibilities with other similar institutions in Spain. ESDIR has a high visibility in the national realm obtained through the work of students and staff in contests, exhibitions and national events.

Main Focus

ESDIR’s main focus resides in the complete training of our students as designers able to think, investigate and create from a critical perspective adapted to their time. Our teaching methodology aims to make students understand the whole meaning of design, not only as creating aesthetic objects, but also as analysis and problem-solving tool. A project-based methodology is carried out, taking into account at the same time the professional and cultural context. The fact that we offer studies in different fields, enables the institution to propose a multidisciplinary perspective aiming for cross-curricular interactions.
