National Role

In the national level the School was host to the  XIV International Congress on Virtual City and Territory – CTV, held in Bogotá and Cartagena de Indias, Colombia, with a multidisciplinary and multiscalar vision of the issues that have to do with the organization and contemporary development of our cities.

Among the most important agreements are those with the Autonomous University of Mexico, the European Institute of Design, the Complutense University of Madrid, the Autonomous University of Barcelona, the University of Rennes, the Confucius Institute, Penn State University and Pompeu Fabra University.

In student mobility, the growth of technology-mediated exchange options, especially during the pandemic, stands out. These experiences have been of special value since they favored interaction with students and professors from other regions of the world through videoconferencing platforms.

Main Focus

The interaction between the University and the external environment is energized through the link promoted by continuing education courses, which, through a relevant offer with the environment, generate significant contributions to institutional allies. The number of beneficiaries and participants in continuing education reached 19,944 people during the last six years through 759 courses that were guided by 1,528 professors.

As a complement to the dynamization of the relationship with the environment, the University has consolidated actions for the transfer of knowledge in the regions of influence in which the University is present, highlighting the following experiences:
– The Bio-Systems Center (Cbios), located in Chía, has consolidated as a reference research space in sustainable production that has four laboratories, the seedling seedbed, the horticenter and the orchard. The Center provides services that include the propagation of plant species, soil and water analysis, pesticide residue detection, evaluation of bioinputs for the agricultural sector and the development of applied research work, focused on the transfer of knowledge in alliance with industry. The Center has favored interaction with industrial, agricultural and research sectors in Bogota, Chia and its areas of influence, including Saenz Fety, ADN, Ocati, Embassy of the Netherlands, PennState, Syngenta, among others.

At the Santa Marta headquarters, the Sea Turtle Conservation Program – ProCTM has been consolidated. Its origin dates back to 1999 – with Petrobras' support since 2006 – and by 2022 it has achieved 35 events for the introduction of 4,718 turtles to the natural environment. The events have involved the participation of communities in the departments of Magdalena and La Guajira and have been documented by the media42 emphasizing UTadeo's commitment to the sustainability and conservation of the planet. Likewise, in 2017 the University contributed to the creation of the Conservation and Management Plan for Aquatic Mammals (cetaceans, manatees and otters) in the Department of Magdalena.

The project developed between the Faculty of Arts and Design and Agrosavia to raise the technological level of fique producers, began in 2014 and was presented to the community in 2020. This project included the development of a patent with utility model from the Superintendence of Industry and Commerce through Resolution No. 26158 of July 4, 2019. Currently, the device is in operation in the department of La Guajira.

The University's academic programs also promote interaction with the environment. In addition to the existing double degree agreements and cooperation agreements, the University created the first Chair in Design, Art and Science to be developed in Colombia, an interdisciplinary bet between the Faculties of Art and Design and Natural Sciences and Engineering that generates dialogues, reflections and new lines of cutting-edge research around biocreation, biomimicry, the development of clothing based on natural and intelligent fibers that connect to the internet of things and automation. This chair served as the foundation for the creation of the new PhD in Design, Art and Science.

The Fundación Universidad de Bogotá Jorge Tadeo Lozanoy has declared itself as a formative university (focused on the formation of professionals and citizens with access to universal and national culture, concerned about conducting research consistent with its formative purposes and capable of responding to the needs of the country, which assumes the social responsibility of allowing access to different social and cultural sectors to a quality higher education). Jorge Tadeo Lozano University's mission and vision state a constant commitment to the processes of training for research and formative research.

It "ensures a system of research, creativity and innovation that supports the training processes of its students in the different areas of science, technology and symbolic production, and which in turn allows it to consolidate institutional capacities to study and propose solutions to relevant problems affecting society" (Universidad Jorge Tadeo Lozano, Bogotá Jorge Tadeo Lozano University). (University of Bogotá Jorge Tadeo Lozano. 2011. Mission. Institutional educational project. p 28).

Formative research is mainly evidenced in the research and creation seedbeds, defined as: "academic groups of learning, research and creation, formed by students, professors and graduates, for the comprehensive and interdisciplinary training of students who contribute to the GRINs".
