In Memoriam
Luk van der Hallen, the professor of product design at the Media & Design Academy (KHLim), having also taught at the Design Academy Eindhoven in the NL, and in FH Joanneum in Graz (Austria) has passed away. Among his remarkable activity, he was the initiator of the IDEM conferences and spent six years in our Cumulus Executive Board (2004-2010). In May 2010, Cumulus conference Borderline – Pushing Design Over The Limit took place in Genk in Belgium with massive thanks to his efforts to welcome Cumulus there. Luk was also a member of the Provincial Commission for Artistic Crafts and played an important role in the early days of Toegepast. Last but, not least, Luk created his own successful design studio Art + Design in Maasmechelen in Belgium.
As his family, Felix, Arnout, and Jeannine say: “We will always remember him as a wonderful human being and artist with an infectious laugh and an optimistic view of the world. We hope that his creativity and teaching has been an inspiration to those who have met him. We are extremely proud of what he has taught us and his grandchildren, and we will continue to radiate his art and joy of life. We are convinced that in this way he will continue to live forever.”
We all miss him, his joy, energy, and positive spirit that have never disappeared from Cumulus.
