Burg Giebichenstein University of Art and Design Halle is looking to fill the following position in the Art Department, cross-sectional field Theories of Art, at the earliest possible date:
Professorship Philosophy of Art/Cultural Theory (W3)
We are searching for an established figure in teaching and research with an outstanding profile in philosophy.
The incumbent is expected to have a broad profile in fields including philosophy of art, aesthetic theory, culture and media theory, philosophical gender research and philosophical anthropology, and will impart the basic principles and further contents of those fields to the students, along with the skills needed for philosophical reflexion. Students will be part of the Art Diploma degree and Art Education courses; however, specific classes in the Theories of Art master’s degree courses and the supervision of doctorates will also be part of the role.
In addition to fulfilling the general appointment requirements according to § 35 HSG LSA, candidates will have to meet the following expectations:
– a completed relevant university degree; further qualifications besides the doctorate through additional scientific achievements (e.g. habilitation)
– an extensive list of publications
– proven competence in several of the scientific fields named above
– a dedicated discussion of questions related to contemporary art
– a pedagogical aptitude and proven relevant teaching experience in a university setting, with a strong commitment to teaching
– a willingness to cooperate with the Design faculty in matters of teaching and in the supervision of students
– cooperation in the self-administration of the university
Teaching is delivered in German.
The professorship can be held for a limited or unlimited period of up to five years. The decision on this is made during the appointment procedure. The decisive criteria for the decision are the structural planning of the university as well as the profile of the applicant. If the professorship is limited in time, the possibility of an unlimited appointment will be examined before the end of the limited term. The salary will be determined in accordance with legal and budgetary requirements.
