Mission Statement

ESDAPC, Escola Superior de Disseny i Arts Plàstiques de Catalunya. http://esdap.cat

Design in the artistic context of the twenty-first century has become an increasingly significant feature on the complex map of creation that has emerged with the appearance of new technologies and their impact on post-Fordist society, known as the society of knowledge and information.

Bringing together the ESDAPC on a multicampus yielded a unique organisation that necessarily requires thorough clarification and coordination of all the conventional management processes of an educational institution and even more so of programmes of mobility, while simultaneously providing very diverse academic, communication, and economic processes.

The ESDAPC has established an international policy that consists of both key and specific strategies for the organisation and implementation of international cooperation projects intended to ensure the modernisation and internationalisation of our institution.

The key international strategies agreed at our institution are:

The creation of strategic alliances and participation in projects with other higher education institutions of cooperation and the transfer of knowledge and best practices.

The establishment of links with business and higher education institutions specialised in design.

Participation with other institutions and companies on international multilateral projects with a view to fostering shared knowledge and improving language skills.

Promoting our institution’s internationalisation by fostering different types of mobility.

The encouragement of cultural diversity in terms of the choice of countries for mobility, both in Europe and in other regions of the world, with special emphasis on international cooperation with countries in the Mediterranean and in Latin America.

International Role

ESDAPC is open to international collaborations, in its academic and professional aspects, through Institutions, High Schools and/or Universities. Some of the lines of work are Erasmus programs, the circulation of knowledge of teaching experiences, the representation of student projects or research in design, taking the idea of "social change" as the axis of work.

National Role

The relationship between ESDAPC and the territory and industry is a characteristic of the curriculum. ESDAPC establishes a relationship with different companies in the design sector (fashion, interiors, graphic and product) and the Chamber of Commerce of Catalonia.

The professional practices are a compulsory and specific subject in the curriculum of the higher artistic education of design of ESDAPC, and contemplates the practical training of the students that will have to realize in the last course of the lessons and before the finalization and defend his Final Project of Studies.
The subject of practical nature is carried out by means of an agreement with Collaborating work centers where the students carry out their professional practices. It is a bridge between the training that the student receives at the High School and the professional design environment.

Main Focus

ESDAPC is oriented in BA Design ( Graphic, Interior, Fashion and Product design ).

Faculties and Departments

Given this transformation and the challenges it raises, within the framework of the European Higher Education Area (EHEA), in 2010 the Department of Education of the Government of Catalonia created the School of Design and Visual Arts of Catalonia (ESDAPC), which teaches the Advanced Qualification in Design in the four specialities that exist to date: Graphic, Interior, Fashion and Product design.

SPACE/INTERIOR [Study of the language of space, its organisation, and the dialogue between proportion and deconstruction in the contemporary world]

Teaching Languages

Spanish/Català

Note: Erasmus students are not required to take a Spanish or Catalan language exam before coming to ESDAP. However, they are expected to possess language skills sufficient for taking part in lecture courses and seminars. Although most of the teachers can speak English, French or Italian, classes will be taught in Catalan and Spanish and that is why it is
still very important to have, at least, a basic knowledge of the local languages.
We offer a spanish course for Erasmus Incoming students that you can include in your learning agreement with 3 ECTS value. This course is mandatory for those who can not certify a B2 level in Spanish before the beginning of their mobility. Barcelona’s City Hall and other local institutions offer several free courses in Catalan (www.cpnl.cat).
