Mission Statement

Nanjing University of the Arts endeavors to cultivate students who can both understand and inherit the cultural and artistic heritage of China and have broad vision of the world, on which base they make their contribution to the artistic world through the creation of art works. We encourages the students to have a better understanding of the diversity and differences of culture of the world through exposing them to the influence of the different cultural and art form of the world. We also encourages the interaction and communication between different art forms and science and technology. And the faculties of Nanjing University of the Arts are dedicated to conduct teaching and research in their specialzed field which helps foster the critical, independent and creative way of thinking of the students. We are also active in participating different dialogues and communications with the local and world community through different art forms, which promotes people's understanding of culture and art.

International Role

NUA has established partnership with over 40 universities across the world. The forms of collaboration includes: running co-education dual degrees programs at BA and MA level; exchange student program for long term and short term; workshops, master-classes, and research project given by partner university professors, holding exchange or joint exhibitions and performances. NUA also actively attends international art festival and exhibitions such as: Edinburgh Art Festival, Leipzig Music Festival, Asian and Eropean Movie Festivals, and the International Poster Design Exhibitions in Germany and UNESCO. With more and more awards achieved by NUA students, NUA is expanding its international influence.

National Role

NUA is the ealiest established art university in Chinese contemporary history. It is also the only comprehensive art university in Jiangsu Province. And among all the Chinese art universities, NUA is the only university which has all the five national first-level art diciplines (namely art and design, music and dance,  theatre and film, art theories and art history). Nanjing University ranks the 3rd among all art Universitis of China following Tsing Hua University(according to Ministry of Education of People's Republic of China ).

Main Focus

Nanjing University of the Arts tries to provide multiple levels of education, including Bachelor, Master and Ph.D. programs in arts.  The main focus of the University is orientated in BA and MA in design, art, crafts, digital media, music, dance, film and TV, etc. NUA is also actively developing cross-diciplinary interaction of education and research. As a universtiy with multiple art diciplines, its education focuses on experimental approaches, to develope and enhance ability of observation, analysis, communication, creation, and research in recognition and expression of arts.
