Mission Statement

Griffith College's mission statement: Pursuing excellence in applied education and the relentless pursuit of the advancement of individual learner attainment. The Faculty of Design's mission statement: To be a platform for intellectual and creative development, with a balance between creativity, practical skills and technology coupled with students who have excellent communication skills. We equip the students with the skills they need to be Industry ready.

International Role

The Design Faculty has nationally and internationally recognised graduates with excellent creative, technical and communication skills. Our students has won internationally recognised student awards and exhibitions celebrating achievements and creativity. International collaborations are managed under agreed quality assurance arrangements with accrediting bodies. Such collaborations are an extension of the policy on internationalising education and of creating a coherent framework of education not only within Ireland but across the World. The faculty's collaboration with partner universities and other institutions are: – NKF, Norges Kreative Fagskole Oslo, Bergen, Trondheim partnership since 2004, Interiors only. – IPAC, Geneva, 2012 Fashion & Interiors – NEPAL review by portfolio 2011 Fashion & Interiors – ERASMUS PROGRAMME – Regents London, Teko Denmark – Modedesignschule Manuel Fritz, Steubenstrasse 46, 68163 Mannheim – Design Department, Mindener Straße 33a, 40227 Düsseldorf – Fahmoda Hanover, Wunstorfer Str. 130, 30453 Hannove

National Role

As previously mentioned the Design Faculty has nationally and internationally recognised graduates with excellent creative, technical and communication skills. Our students has won internationally recognised student awards and exhibitions celebrating achievements and creativity. The faculty has strong Industry links and connection with important names within the industry who provide internships, guest lecturers and continued professional development opportunities for staff and students. The Faculty of Design receives professional recognition from the following: – IDI (Institute of Designers in Ireland) – ECIA (European Council Interior Architects) – Interiors Association

Main Focus

Interior Design: Our students learn to produce innovative and technically proficient designs, and to apply their knowledge of building technology and regulations, and organise, manage and operate design projects within the various regulatory frameworks. Fashion Design: Focus on the development of original ideas – through innovation, experimentation, and a close relationship between tutors and students.

Research Activity and Main Areas

Interior Design: – Re-imagine buildings in the North Georgian Quarter of Dublin – Intercultural Project in Sarajevo with University of Sarajevo for the MA students. Fashion Design: – Lectra 3D Pattern Creation Software, allowing a 3D fit process to create realistic virtual samples by bringing together flat patterns, fabrics, colours, trims, logos, and virtual 3D mannequins.
