About Cumulus Working Groups

Unique Communities of Practice

As a distributed global network, our association has a long tradition of celebrating its members’ diversity of interests and expertise.
The Cumulus Working Groups (CWGs) are groups of members who typically self-organize and come together to share common interests and collaborate on a particular topic, interacting on an ongoing basis to advance that topic over time and creating a shared repertoire of resources.

Throughout the years and with the facilitation support of the Cumulus Secretariat, CWGs have pursued joint activities, discussions, workshops, and relationship building both relying on face-to-face meetings during the Cumulus annual conferences as well as by creating virtual collaborative environments. In some cases, CWGs have responded to calls for participation in publication sponsorship opportunities via the association, producing Cumulus Think Tank publications focused on their domain of interest (visit our resources section for examples of these resources).

Fostering New Coordinated Visibility and Engagement for CWGs

Cumulus Working Groups typically have a coordinator (s) or chair (s) and while many CWGs have a roster of regular members, most are open organisms that are welcoming of new participants and contributors among the Cumulus membership.

The Cumulus Secretariat issues once a year a new call for expressions of interest for members who wish to form a Cumulus Working Group. As part of the community-pillar of Cumulus’ current strategic plan, Cumulus at 30, and in the heels of our association’s embrace of a more robust digital ecosystem of collaboration, the Cumulus Secretariat and Executive Board continue to be committed to supporting the activities of CWGs and strengthening their visibility within our association!
