Burg Giebichenstein University of Art and Design Halle is looking to fill the following position in the Art Department at the earliest possible date:
Professorship Fundamentals of Visual Art/Painting (W2)
We are searching for an exceptional artistic personality with experience in practice and teaching, to provide the artistic foundations in our Painting courses.
The successful candidate is skilled in the use of a wide spectrum of artistic methods in both classical and contemporary painting. Teaching content includes basic theories of composition and colour, and a look beyond the format of a picture in an examination of material, process and space. Students should be introduced to strategies of image creation in a cross-media and transdisciplinary understanding of teaching, as well as to the contemporary discourse on painting.
As well as fulfilling the professional requirements of § 35 of the Higher Education Act of the State of Saxony-Anhalt, the successful candidate will also be expected to meet the following criteria:
– Proof of an original artistic oeuvre in the field of contemporary painting, with active exhibition work
– Higher education degree in an artistic subject, or equivalent qualification
– Proven pedagogical aptitude through documented teaching experience
– Continuous individual support of all students within the Fundamentals/Painting programme in the Art department, and the ability to advance the subject area
– Conceptual and professional participation in interdisciplinary tasks furthering the development of the university
– Willingness to actively participate in the academic self-administration of the university
– Ability to teach in German
– Ability and willingness to teach in English is desirable.
The professorship can be held for a limited or unlimited period of up to five years. The decision on this is made during the appointment procedure, with the decisive criteria being the structural planning of the university and the profile of the applicant. If the professorship is limited in time, the possibility of an unlimited appointment will be examined before the end of the limited term. The salary will be determined in accordance with legal and budgetary requirements.
