Domus Academy launches the third edition of UNFOLD, its annual global design competition and showcase, under the theme ENGAGE FRICTION://designing through conflict. This initiative invites design schools worldwide to explore how design can confront—rather than smooth over—the tensions defining our time.

Selected projects will be exhibited at UNFOLD 2026, a special exhibition and one-day conference held during Milan Design Week (April 21–26, 2026)—the premier global event for design professionals, creatives, and media. For students, it’s a unique opportunity to share ideas on an international stage and connect with key industry players.

This year’s theme challenges participants to embrace friction—social, technological, or environmental—as a catalyst for dialogue, transformation, and critical reflection.

The last edition featured 12 top design schools from 9 countries, involving 53 students and over 40 faculty members—underscoring UNFOLD’s collaborative and global reach.
