International Role
The school has established cooperative relations with dozens of well-known art colleges in the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Italy, South Korea, Singapore, the United States and other countries, and actively promotes the exchange of teachers and students and art education exchanges and cooperation.
National Role
Guided by social needs, the school takes the initiative to dock with national and local development strategies, and deeply participates in major construction such as rural revitalization, the Belt and Road Initiative, the large-scale development of the western region, and the Chengdu-Chongqing Twin Cities Economic Circle. The school undertook the 13th National Fine Arts Exhibition, Oil Painting Works Exhibition and Sculpture Works Exhibition, undertook important tasks such as celebrating the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China, Chongqing float design and "Endeavor New Era" theme achievement exhibition Chongqing unit display, promoted the effective connection between poverty alleviation and rural revitalization, and played an active role in the major strategy of urban renewal and rural revitalization.
Main Focus
Fine Arts and Design were approved as first-class disciplines in Chongqing; Fine arts, design, drama and film and television, art theory, and landscape architecture have been approved as key disciplines in Chongqing, achieving 100% coverage of provincial key disciplines.
Faculties and Departments
Sichuan Fine Arts Institute, founded in 1940, is the only higher arts college in the Southwestern Region. It currently consists of Huangjiaoping Campus in Jiulongpo District and Huxi Campus in the college town of high-tech zone, covering an total area of 1200 mu (unit of area). In November 2018, the Institute selected 150 mu of land in Liangjiang New District, Chongqing and established the International Design School (Western China Arts Port). The Institute has the right to award bachelor’s degree and master’s degree.At present, the Institute is composed of 9 schools. SCFAI now has 829 staff, 615 full-time teachers, 76 professors, 178 associate professors and 151 full-time teachers with doctorates.
Bachelor Level Programs
Sichuan Fine Arts Institute has been holding undergraduate education since 1959, and now has 22 undergraduate majors, forming four undergraduate majors in modeling, design, film and television animation, and art theory, and actively expanding cutting-edge, emerging and interdisciplinary professional fields such as experimental art.
Master Level Programs
Sichuan Fine Arts Institute began to recruit graduate students in 1977, and in 1981, the Academic Degrees Committee of the State Council approved the school as the first batch of master's degree awarding units. At present, the school has 4 first-level discipline master's authorization points under the art category: art theory, drama and film and television, fine arts, and design, and 2 professional degree master's authorization points for master of art (MFA) and master of landscape architecture (MLA).
Research Activity and Main Areas
Sichuan Fine Arts Institue actively participates in major and key creative scientific research projects that serve the major urgent needs of the Party and the country and promote regional economic and social development, and constantly builds the plateau and peak of Chuanmei creative scientific research. It has established a number of provincial-level scientific research platforms such as the Humanities and Social Sciences Research Base and the Experimental Teaching Demonstration Center of Chongqing Universities, and added scientific research platforms such as the Art Creation Research Center for Major Themes, the Design Innovation Research Center, the Art and Rural Research Institute and the Dazu Art Research Institute. In the past five years, the school has undertaken 40 projects of the National Social Science Foundation for Arts, the Humanities and Social Sciences of the Ministry of Education, the National Arts Fund, 17 humanities and social science projects of the Ministry of Education, and 221 provincial scientific research projects. Undertake 9 major theme creations to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China and the 100th anniversary of the founding of the CPC; Teachers and students have participated in the past two national art exhibitions and won 2 gold awards, 4 silver awards and 19 bronze awards.

Semester Dates
In general, there are 2 academic semesters in an academic year, the first semester usuallty starts form September to January, and the second semester from Februay to June or July.
