We have a pleasure to thank our member university College of Creative Studies in Detroit US that hosted in collaboration with AICAD Association of Independent Colleges of Art & Design in US the unforgettable Design for Adaptation conference 2-4 November 2022 and all its sponsors Fred A. and Barbara M. Erb Family Foundation and the DTE Energy Foundation.
The event was chaired by Maria Luisa Rossi, System Design Thinking Chair and Professor, and co-chaired by Olga Stella, VP of Strategy and Communication, and Ian Lambert, Dean of Graduate Studies and Research, and in collaboration with AICAD President and Executive Director of Deborah Obalil. Massive thanks also to Jill Davis, Executive Assistant – Graduate Studies and Conference Coordinator supported by conference planning committee members Shaye Isenberg, Megan Mesack, Sandra Olave, Doug Kisor, and Shannon McParlon and the staff and students of CCS. It is also more than an honor to thank the past Cumulus Executive Board 2019-2022, the current Executive Board and the team at Cumulus Secretariat Justyna Molik and Anna Malmström for non-stop support and organizing.
We would not have been able to get together without passionate keynote speakers Mikko Ollikainen of Adaptation Fund and Anika Gross of Detroit Future City, all track and session chairs, Cumulus Working Group chairs and all who spoke and contributed to the success of this conference as the second one of Cumulus in the North America. We were all together across the globe 370 participants and after the pandemic as onsite attendees 255 persons from 37 countries.
We started with a warm hearted and impactful warming up of Dwight Stackhouse, following a deep dive into Detroit by Antoine Bryant, Conan Smith continued by CCS President Donald L. Tuski and Maria Luisa Rossi with their warm welcomes. Our President Lorenzo Imbesi energized people to radiate adaptation beyond the conference. Deborah Obalil of AICAD made a bang to collect together the energy of networking.
It is more than a hope to say “Let us be re-energized and inspired to “design for adaptation” to the urgent impacts of the climate crisis. Cumulusians never stop”.
