Wind of change \u2013 Art University as active contributor or neutral ground?<\/strong><\/p>\n

In view of the subject matter, we have decided against an online broadcast. The discussion is only accessible to those present.<\/p>\n

Art universities play an important role in raising the future creative individuals and fostering a vibrant cultural landscape within society. Art Universities as institutions not only provide a platform for students to hone their artistic skills but also core values that extend far beyond the university walls, ensuring their enduring relevance in both academic and societal contexts.<\/p>\n

We propose a discussion and workshop on the following topic: Do Art and Design universities see themselves as active contributors to society, not only through education, but also through advocacy, research and public engagement. Does the institution still have a responsibility to promote principles such as academic freedom, ethical behavior and social responsibility?<\/p>\n

How do we define academic freedom and social responsibility in order to create a sustainable working environment for students and academics within the Art university? What does this question mean in relation to higher education pedagogies?<\/p>\n

Andreas Kohli is a lecturer in the Department of Cultural Analysis at the ZHdK \u2013 Zurich University of the Arts. Minna Suoniemi is a Helsinki-based artist, curator and University Lecturer in Aalto University, Department of Art and Media.<\/p>\n

Bios:
\nAndreas Kohli<\/strong> is a lecturer in the Department of Cultural Analysis at the ZHdK \u2013 Zurich University of the Arts. At ZHdK, he teaches in the Bachelor of Arts Education and transdisciplinary modules. His areas of interest include urban spaces and their media representation, art, and artificial intelligence,
\necology, interculturality. Other topics include the development of teaching materials and
\ne-learning content. He has initiated and led numerous cultural projects in Europe, Africa, and Asia and is a member of the Shared Campus \/ Critical Ecologies \u751f\u614b\u601d group.<\/p>\n

Minna Suoniemi<\/strong> is a Helsinki-based artist, curator and University Lecturer in Aalto University, Department of Art and Media. Her practice draws from embodied experience and feminist knowledge production, and she has worked on themes such as control, body, class and family. Suoniemi has exhibited internationally in Europe, United States, South America and Asia and her work is represented in Finnish collections including EMMA, Kiasma and the Finnish State Art Collection. She has been nominated for trustee positions i.e. The Finnish Arts Promotion Center and has worked as an artist and pedagogue in various Institutions.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
