{"id":7922,"date":"2024-05-01T08:20:41","date_gmt":"2024-05-01T08:20:41","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cumulusassociation.org\/?p=7922"},"modified":"2024-05-02T10:09:47","modified_gmt":"2024-05-02T10:09:47","slug":"assistant-lecture-in-animation-motion-design","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cumulusassociation.org\/job-listings\/assistant-lecture-in-animation-motion-design","title":{"rendered":"Assistant Lecture in Animation &#038; Motion Design"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Qualifications\/<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>Experience<\/strong><br \/>\nCandidates must have:<br \/>\n\u2022 A relevant degree (level 8) with First or Second Class Honours of a recognised third level institution; or equivalent qualification.<br \/>\n\u2022 and<br \/>\nNot Less than 3 years relevant post qualification experience<br \/>\nDesirable:<br \/>\n\u2022 Doctorate (PhD) (highly desirable) or master&#8217;s qualification in a relevant animation, motion design or related creative field<br \/>\n\u2022 Familiarity with 2D rigging is highly desirable<br \/>\n\u2022 A strong portfolio \/ showreel of animation and or motion design professional output.<br \/>\n\u2022 A wealth of knowledge in a host of design software, specifically Adobe After Effects, Cinema 4D &#038; Toon Boom Harmony.<br \/>\n\u2022 Experience and knowledge of Animation &amp; Motion design processes, practices, tools, and methodologies.<br \/>\n\u2022 Familiarity with 3D modelling (Cinema 4D preferably), rigging, lighting, rendering (RedShift).<br \/>\n\u2022 Experience in working with animation and motion design technology and maintaining an active interest in related developments within the sector.<br \/>\n\u2022 Ability to engage with emerging and advancing creative tools (for example: Unreal Engine).<br \/>\n\u2022 The applicant will be expected to have both a broad and working knowledge of visual culture and visual storytelling, with a specific focus on animation and motion design.<br \/>\n\u2022 Evidence of critical thinking, design led problem-solving skills, use of animation and motion design methods and the ability to work collaboratively.<br \/>\n\u2022 Excellent interpersonal, organisational and communication skills<br \/>\n\u2022 Previous experience of teaching at undergraduate and graduate levels.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Principal duties and responsibilities<\/strong><br \/>\nThe appointee will play an active role in the academic direction of courses including teaching, research, academic assessment and academic administration. The appointee should carry out such duties as are assigned to them in accordance with collective agreements arrived at from time to time and authorised by the relevant Minister including but not limited to:-<br \/>\na) Teaching such assigned classes as deemed appropriate by the management of the TU, day or evening, up to 630 hours per annum including supervision of post-graduate students where appropriate. There will be a norm of 18 class contact hours per week, which may be varied by the TU management from 16 to 20 following consultation with the Assistant Lecturer. A weighting of 1.25 will apply to hours worked after 6.00 p.m.<br \/>\n(These arrangements are subject to collective agreements arrived at from time to time and authorised by the relevant Minister.<br \/>\nb) Carrying out assessment, monitoring and evaluation of examinations work, and providing an academic and consultative support to students in their learning activities.<br \/>\nc) Providing academic input on existing and new courses and course development.<br \/>\nd) Engaging in research, consultancy and development work as appropriate.<br \/>\ne) Participating in committees appropriate to courses and meetings convened by management.<br \/>\nf) Maintaining appropriate records and making available information as required by management.<br \/>\ng) Engaging in promotion including student recruitment as appropriate.<br \/>\nh) Participating in the development, implementation and maintenance of academic quality assurance arrangements.<br \/>\ni) Participating in appropriate activities necessary to the development of their department\/school and of the TU.<br \/>\nj) Directing and supervising the work of Tutor\/Demonstrator and taking academic responsibility for the academic standards of this work. When an Assistant Lecturer is supervising a Tutor\/Demonstrator a reduction in teaching hours will be applied on the basis of a one hour reduction per three hours demonstration\/tutorials supervised.<br \/>\nk) The performance of these duties will require attendance in addition to class contact hours during the normal working week.<br \/>\nl) The appointee shall carry out the lawful instructions of the President (or authorised Officer) and comply with the requirements and regulations of the relevant Minister.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Career Progression<\/strong><br \/>\nAssistant Lecturers will progress to the grade of Lecturer on completion of one years\u2019 service after having reached the maximum of the Assistant Lecturer scale subject to a minimum of five years continuous service in the grade subject to ability, experience, academic qualifications, scholarship and demonstrated performance. Possession of an appropriate defined postgraduate qualification or equivalent shall normally be considered an essential requirement. The TU may award incremental credit for previous service in the Assistant Lecturer grade in another Institute or University. The TU may require five years\u2019 service in the TU before progression is considered.<br \/>\nAn Assistant Lecturer with a PhD and relevant research experience may be considered for progression after three years\u2019 continuous service. If successful, such an Assistant Lecturer may be placed on the first point of the lecturer scale and remain on that point until five years\u2019 service has been completed. Progression for Assistant Lecturers shall be irrespective of whether a new post of Lecturer has been established or a vacancy at Lecturer level has occurred.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Superannuation<\/strong><br \/>\nThis is a pensionable post. Specific details of the scheme will be dependent on the successful appointee\u2019s individual status and therefore such details will be provided at the time of appointment.<br \/>\nApplicants should note that they will be required to complete a Pre-Employment Declaration to confirm whether they have previously availed of an Irish Public Service Scheme of incentivised early retirement or enhanced redundancy payment.<br \/>\nApplicants will also be required to declare any entitlements to a Public Service pension benefit (in payment or preserved) from any other Irish Public Service employment.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Salary Scale<\/strong><br \/>\n\u20ac48,660 &#8211; \u20ac60,047 8 points<br \/>\n\u20ac44,198 \u2013 \u20ac60,047 (new entrant). 10 points<br \/>\nIn instances where not previously employed or employed after 1st January 2011 in a similar or analogous grade in the public service, appointees will be placed on the new entrant scale.
