Pforzheim University is a highly regarded institution in the south of Germany, which consists of three faculties: design, engineering and business. MEDIA THEORY AND
DESIGN PROCESSES
The incumbent will be responsible for offering his or her own media theory classes for design students, some of which must be in English. The target is to achieve close interaction between the fundamentals of media theory and the real-world process and social structures of design in teaching and research. The desired key content includes media theory and process structures in design, theories of communication and creativity, social structures and social systems. Duties will also include overseeing thesis proposals and the supervision of dissertations within the Master course work.
Applicants are required to provide recent examples of academic projects, publications and other supporting
documents of his or her ability to meet the selection criteria. The ideal candidate has extensive teaching experience and has worked professionally outside of the academic world with an involvement in the European design network and forums. Preference will be given to the candidate who is able to display his or her vision in the formation this position.
The School of Design will cull this information to create a research focus within the field of Design Theory. The incumbent’s work is intended to intensify research into the function of design in society thus his or her experience is to include independent performance of research projects. In addition, skills and experience in fund raising within and outside of the academic world is a requirement. In our work, creative productivity is an achievement that is sought, teamed with an awareness of quality and responsibility. Imaginativeness and didactic skills in teaching with a willingness to work on self-regulatory bodies is expected. In addition, the professor is to maintain a level of involvement in the university’s international activities. (Code number 121031)
The requirements for appointment include a university degree, academic ability, which is usually shown by a doctorate or post doctoral qualification, and at least five years of professional experience, of which at least three years must be outside of the academic world.
